It has been estimated that 96 percent of American homes now have television sets, which are in use more than six hours a day in the average home. Obviously, since most young people spend so much time with television or radio, they acquire widespread impressions of human life and events from the media. Be it therefore

Resolution

Resolved, that the National Council of Teachers of English go on record as favoring the teaching of television and radio evaluation in both elementary and secondary schools, and, to that end, propose that colleges and universities prepare prospective and current teachers for the task of developing in their students evaluative skills for these media.
