Do You Plan to Write this Month?

National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) happens every November — an exciting writing event where the challenge is to draft an entire novel in just 30 days. For that month, let imagination take over, create, and ignore your inner editor! Learn more about NaNoWriMo and check out these resources on writing.

Katherine Sokolowski describes “Making Time for NaNoWriMo.” Her advice? Start early. Write daily. Celebrate success.

NCTE members Tricia Baldes and Andrea Hayden detail “Our Journey with NaNoWriMo—Year Four!” They share about a lasting impact from this process that goes far beyond a typical writing unit in an ELA class.

NCTE member Jennifer Ansbach shares “‘We’re going to do WHAT?’: How NaNoWriMo Has Changed the Lives of Over 700 of My Students.”

The NaNoWriMo blog has stories and lessons from participants of National Novel Writing Month.

If you need inspiration for your students, check out this video posted by NCTE member Beth Shaum. Author and teacher Marquin Parks shares a National Novel Writing Month pep talk with her 8th grade students.

If you can’t write a novel this month, make plans to write when you can!
